The Close Encounters Documentary Laboratory, with funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, presents the world première of the My Hood Project – six specially commissioned short documentaries, selected from 74 applications nationally. The six successful filmmakers attended the Laboratory in Cape Town, where they were mentored by award-winning filmmakers Brian Tilley and Lauren Groenewald. The project provided filmmakers with an opportunity to turn their lens on a reality that is part of their daily life, and to portray the lives of those who inhabit their space. The My Hood films portray unique realities and perspectives from Highlands Road in Yeoville and Hout Bay to the village of Elim near Cape Agulhus, from a dice game in Diepsloot to a hostel in Mzimhlophe, Soweto to a Braamfontein bridge in the inner city Jozi.
