Margarita’s life is comfortable, if not idyllic – she’s a live-in nanny to the only child of a dentist and doctor couple in Toronto, and she’s hotly romancing with student lawyer Jane. They’re in love, but Jane puts off Margarita’s marriage proposal – too young, too soon, too too.. When Ben and Gail are hit by financial woes, they must cut costs and Margarita is, ineptly, fired. What follows is a pleasing comedy of errors that highlights the complacency of the well-meaning well-to-do who have no idea of how the other immigrant half copes. Add a few more mishaps that lead to a crisis and everyone is on board to try and make it better, with many genuinely funny moments and performances, though it looks like it’s heading for a sad ending. A glorious original sound track of swaying latina rhythms warms up the snowy Toronto landscape. As the MC said, life is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, even the orchestra is beautiful.
