The Corps is in Alexandra’s (Weber) blood. Hard drinking, hard-hitting, no-nonsense, blonde and buff, Alex should be a hero, but when she returns with an ‘honourable discharge’ of mysterious circumstances to her ultra conservative home town, she finds herself adrift. Reluctantly Alex takes on the responsibility of preparing the sullen and in-trouble Saffron for a court-imposed stint in the Navy. Her time preparing Saffron for boot camp helps Alex to leave the military life behind, to reconnect with her past, and start imagining a future. A timely reminder of the invidious “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy of the US Military and the extraordinary damage it caused to 1000s, the multiple-award winning A Marine Story is a well-crafted film, with a strong story, great performances and neat cinematography.
