Four short legs. One huge heart. Jock, our hero, is confident, enthusiastic, curious and fearless. He’s our pugnacious and loyal runt of the litter who wins against all odds. Set in the Bushveld near what is today the Kruger National Park, the story is about Jock’s adventures with Fitz, his master. Jock escapes death, builds crazy friendships and displays his unrivalled loyalty.
As the runt, nothing comes easy to Jock, but with his mother’s love and guidance, he turns into Africa’s great hero. The thought of failure never enters his mind.
The story is set in the late 1880s when Africa’s mineral richness, teeming animal life and incomparable natural beauty drew and captivated explorers and adventurers from all over the world. A place where big game roamed in the thousands and the wildest tales were true!
The storyline focuses on the animals, and it is from their point of view that the story unfolds. Some of the characters are: Jess, Jock’s mom, who is fiercely loyal and protective; Fitz, Jock’s human partner and friend; Pezulu, the colourful rooster, a comic character who’s over the top, noisy and who ‘shoots from the hip’; George, the antagonistic baboon – a villain with a mission to destroy Jock; Basil, a flamboyant, gossiping monkey whose one-liners epitomise his wit; Jim, a powerful Zulu warrior who respects and admires Jock’s loyalty and bravery; Snarly, an opportunistic witty mongrel; and Polly, a beautiful French poodle who, although she can be rather snobbish, is the apple of both Jock and Snarly's eyes.
