The seminal voice of leftist journalism, John Pilger, tells the modern history of South America as a sustained revolt against North American influence culminating in the Bolivian Revolution of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Pilger argues that the United States' history of political and economic manipulations amount to a continuing war on democracy. America's protection of its economic interest on the continent has resulted in human rights abuses, violations of international law, genocide and political persecution - justified as the "defence of national security". Punctuated by the significant and heroic victories of the poor majority through their popular movements, this forceful documentary celebrates the rise of true democracy in the face of dictatorial might.
