How long would you wait for love? Set in Columbia over a fifty-year span between the 19th and 20th century, Love in the time of Cholera is about Florentino, a poet and telegraph clerk who falls in love with Fermina from the moment he sets eyes on her.<br /><br />But Fermina marries and moves away from the city of Cartagena, only to return many years later. Florentina who has never forgotten her, and who has waited a lifetime for her, professes his undying love to her at her husband?s funeral all these years later, only to be met with her fury. The film then unravels the last fifty years leading up to this very moment.<br /><br />We see how their initial love affair began and how Fermina?s father vowed to keep them apart, how Fermina who meets Dr Urbino during an unexplained bout of cholera that has overwhelmed the city, marries him and is swept away to Paris for many years, so that by the time she returns with him to Columbia she has all but forgotten her first love, Florentino.<br /><br />But we see that Florentino?s love and passion for Fermina has never died and that although he engages is a series of affairs with other women, his heart always yearns for Fermina.
