There is no honour in honour killing. Inspired by a 1995 article by the Times of India, this story is about honour.
A lower caste guy went with two friends to a village – Jhanjhar, Bihar, his hometown, to watch Ramleela. The three Delhi University students go missing in the dusty village. First, for three months, there's no clue as to where they've gone. Media and student movements all over Bihar take a pivotal role in searching for them, and the government appoints CBI officers Sidhant Chaturvedi and Pratap Kumar to investigate.
Pratap, a Bihar resident, understands the intricacies of race relations in small towns such as Jhanjhar. Pratap uses his charm and quick wit to investigate, while Sidhant has a very no nonsense approach. It’s a clash of personalities and ideologies.
Investigating becomes a tough task for these officers as the local police runs a major branch of the Shool Sena. The two officers can't break the ice with lower-caste community, due to years of fear instilled in them by regular and well-planned Shool Sena attacks. Roshni, thedaughter of the most powerful person in the village, is the source of some key revelations.
Soon, there are riots and peasant killings in broad daylight. Slowly, Pratap and Siddhant start cracking the case by exerting influence on Geeta, a victim to this inhumanity, who acts as a final key to the investigation.
How, amongst the chaos and animositys, Pratap and Sidhant solve the case is explained with a chain of exciting, funny and intelligent moves that form the story's climax.
